In Israel, people greet one another by saying "Shalom." In the Bible, "Shalom" means Peace in it's fullest sense (Isaiah 32:16,17,18,20). Shalom is not just the absense of war and violence, but also the presence of justice, righteousness, happiness, and fullness of life. What better way to greet your neighbors, family, or friends, thant o wave and say, "SHALOM!"
People can only become a reality when we become a SHALOM people. It all begins with us. If we wait, it may never come.
In the ongoing efforts to create a true SHALOM society, Under the Star! Int'l and the community division of Evergreen , place into motion a Bible-based, therapeutical, and effective lifestyle for any individual being released from jail/prison/hospital.
Inmates complete a written questionaire and interview while incarcerated. The inmate is then matched with a SHINE team member and counseled through Evergreen ; our prison/jail/community outreach ministry. The inmate becomes actively involved in Bible studies, prayer circles, Christian reading, and a one-on-one relationshipt with his/her SHINE team member. Evergreen help the inmate's immediate family with:
Evergreen will also be sure that all program inmates have neede hygiene and stationary while incarcerated. (Will open in a popup window)
Upon the inmate's release, our SHINE team member is at the front door to meet the inmate and provide transportation to the inmate's new home, new job, and new life for the sext six (6) months.
SHALOM is a transitional living experience for the newly-released inmate (much like a halfway house setting). Shalom operates a fully-equipped horse and carriage ranch. The inmate now becomes a "rancher," learning full details of:
Ranchers reside in moderm, comfortable bunk housing; main kitchen & dining hall, Recreation barn, basketball, and pool. Our ranchers earch room and boards and a real paycheck. Ranchers attend weekly classes of life skills, anger or financial management, parneting, relationshipts, Bible study, and Sunday church. Monthly activities are planned, encouraged, and attended by the rancher and his family and friends. Ranchers also adhere to random drug testing and daily/weekly structured, disciplined, scheduled responsibilites. After six (6) months with Shalom, the rancher will be prepared to return to the community. Shalom will assist each rancher in establishing a bank account (checking & savings), new home, furniture, utlilies, reuniting the family, and rooting firmly into a solid church home and family of believers. The rancher could be offered a full-time position with Shalom or our staff will assist in our rancher securing a full-time job of his/her career choice and training. Through Shalom we build character, skills, possibility thinking, united families, employment, believers in God, and solid citizens for a Shalom community. Most of all, Shalom ends the "revolving door" for the inmate. No more Jail. Through Shalom we have designed, built, and instilled new habits, total discipline & obedience, and dreams of positive goals and reality. All because we put God first. Remember - Shalom is not just the absense of justice, righteousness, happiness, and fullness of life.
